Tashweesh: free performance at the CCA
Tuesday, 3 August 2010, 20:00
Video and sound artist Basel Abbas and artist and film-maker Ruanne Abou-Rahme work on this collaboration with music composer and MC boikutt, combining their different practices and interests in a joint performance, mixing live visuals electronic, glitch, and abstract hip hop with Arabic rapping . The result is an exploration of the collision between sound and video field recordings, archive material, vocals, breaks and soundscapes. Their audio-visual performances will take place in Glasgow at the CCA as well as in Edinburgh at the Forest Cafe and Edinburgh College of Art's Tent Gallery.
Aaron Cezar, Director of the Delfina Foundation, says, “ Tashweesh is the latest 'voice' to emerge from Palestine, representing a new generation of artists who are not only cutting edge but blurring the edges between artistic disciplines, social action and geographical boundaries. Beyond Borders is elated to bring this new constellation of audio-visual culture to Scotland and showcase these rising stars”.

Born-by-Wires Launch Night
1 st JULY STEREO, Renfield lane, Glasgow
With support from the Brazen Cars, Helicon and De Large
Born-by-Wires create moments where you can enjoy the catchy, familiar sounds of pop music, but become lost in a spectacle of performance and experience the new waves of underground sound and music from this unique and intriguing musical act.
Born-by-Wires is a new Scottish band containing experienced and talented members specialising in the niche music market. Born-by-Wires or BbW are a mixture of experimental post-rock, electronica and mashed up pop songs fronted by female singer/ songwriter Sarah-Beth Brown. BbW produce experimental music in a new direction, which challenges the expectations of popular music.
BbW's aim was to marry together opposites and to successfully make music that can sway between standard and non-standard forms. Their newly recorded 5 song EP is due for release in July accompanied by the ever anticipated Launch event at Stereo, Renfield lane, Glasgow on the 1 st July.

14milesfromhome EP Launch
I am writing to you in hope of raising public awareness for my band; 14 Miles From Home. We have recently signed a single deal with Brighton based label, Metropolis Records and we will be launching the Single plus a 4 track E.P on Friday the 2 nd of July. This will be followed by a 7 date UK tour, including venues in London. We will soon be recording with Bruce Rintoul, who has previously worked with bands such as The Ting Tings, Twin Atlantic and We Were Promised Jetpacks. This is a very exciting time for us!
We have been together for over 2 years now and have played hundreds of shows all over Scotland, receiving praise for our musicianship and our energetic stage performance, but more importantly, our passion and enthusiasm. These are the qualities that we believe make a band successful, as music is such an important part of our lives, we hope to take our talent as far as we can. We are passionate and enthusiastic about each and every performance and although we are strongly established on the local music scene, we are keen to make ourselves recognised nationally.
As we already have a strong fan base, we hope to increase this with your help. We hope you can help by providing exposure for the public and other media outlets. We are hoping for radio airtime, CD or live reviews, interviews etc. We are already working on a full length album, music video, press pack, merchandise, and sponsorship. We would appreciate any assistance you can offer as we are serious about taking our music to the next level. For more information, please visit – www.myspace.com/14milesfromhome .
