On his return to the  UK , Jonathan sold out 2 shows at King Tuts,  Glasgow  and received plenty of critical acclaim. Last year saw a move to Nice in the south of  France  before going on to perform in 27 countries with a band of Berklee alumni. Since returning to Scotland in January, 2014, Jonathan has now signed a new management deal with QSphere in  London  and his new EP, "Upside Down" is imminent. Elbow Room, by Thomas Butler
A new work about the cities that are built by us and for us, featuring Red Note Ensemble

Red Note, Sound and Music Embedded Composer in Residence, Thomas Butler ‘s new work Elbow Room explores the psychogeography of cites; how we affect the city and how the city affects us.

The culmination of an 18 month residency with Red Note, Elbow Room uses composition, performance and field recording techniques to tell the story of the mid-twentieth century plan to demolish the city of Glasgow and replace it with a futuristic concrete utopia; an architect's view of a healthier, more rational and productive city, for a healthier, more rational and productive population.

Thomas Butler said: “When I first moved to Glasgow I wondered why there was a motorway running through the city centre; that was really the starting point for this piece. Elbow Room echoes a time when Glasgow was being torn down to make way for a futuristic city powered by its inhabitants; an efficient machine with clean lines and clean living.”

Mixing period films from the Scottish Screen Archive, which extol the virtues of the Glasgow of the future, with new sound recordings made in the city and a virtuosic score featuring violin, cello, percussion, electric guitar, synthesizer, clarinet and bass clarinet, Elbow Room is a nostalgic reflection upon fantasy and reality, ideal and actuality.

John Harris, Red Note Ensemble, said: “Tom has been part of the Red Note ‘family' since the beginning of last year, and in that time he's worked with us many different roles - including producer, workshop-leader and even music-stand-mover (!) as part of the all-inclusive experience of his Embedded Residency. It's now time for him to shine with us as a composer, and we're thrilled with Elbow Room . It's such an ambitious and thoughtful piece, and we are incredibly proud to be presenting it with him."

Thomas added: “In the city each generation overwrites the last and creates a layered tapestry of ways of living in constant flux. A city's development is being told at the micro and macro level; from multi-million pound construction projects to old signs and insignia that survive long past the thing they once signified and patches of wasteland, now overgrown ghosts of their former social and commercial life.”

More than just a story, Elbow Room is an evocative, highly stylised voyage combining video footage, still images and music. Transporting the audience back to a glorified past, a time of naively optimistic urban evolution.

New Rehearsal and Creative Space opens in Edinburgh.

The Wel - Edinburgh Rehearsal and Creative Facility

Edinburgh events company Woosh Entertainments have opened a second room at their rehearsal and creative facility The Wel .

The Wel now consists of two high quality, multi-purpose spaces designed to cater for creative people in music, drama, photography - any creative area they can accommodate.

The addition of second room, a flexible 34m2 space, now means Woosh Entertainments can provide more availability to professional and semi-professional musicians as well as for tuition, recording and photography. Both rooms are also ideal for small-scale theatre rehearsals and castings or auditions. The PA systems, microphones and guitar amps are regularly serviced and cleaned and the drum kits are well maintained and frequently tuned. These things matter to musicians, so they matter to The Wel.

The two fresh air ventilated rooms come equipped with - Electrovoice PA, Allen & Heath mixing desk, 3 Sennheiser Vocal microphones, 4 DI Boxes, 2 Marshall Guitar Amps, 1 Hartke Bass Amp and a Mapex Meridian 6-piece Drum Kit. There are many little extras including free parking, free Wifi, spares and accessories for sale plus a social space with microwave and a fridge stocked with juice, water and snacks.

The Wel boasts an impressive and diverse list of clients. One look at the Testimonials page on the website shows why The Wel is now regarded as one of the best rehearsal spaces in Edinburgh. Woosh Entertainments Director Keith Easton is delighted with the addition of a second space. "Since opening our first room in February 2012 we have built a large and loyal client list. Everyone comments that we have clean facilities and that all the equipment is always in good working order, especially the drum kits. These things really matter to bands and musicians so they matter to us. We enjoyed a really busy August during The Edinburgh Festivals and this confirmed that we needed more space to match the demand. We'd also seen an increase in the use of the space as a photography studio, so we were keen to create a second flexible space that isn't just for use by bands. Even when the one room was fully booked we were delighted that so many people kept coming back to us when it was free, so it's great to now be in the position to accommodate more users."
Located just off Bonnington Road in the Leith area of Edinburgh, with free parking , The Wel welcomes you.

For more information about The Wel including the full kit list, visit The Wel website www.thewel.co.uk , call -  0131 553 1589 or email Keith Easton - keith@woosh.tv

Hello, The Caves Edinburgh are welcoming back one of the most energetic and enigmatic live acts on the planet next month... HYPNOTIC BRASS ENSEMBLE. With support from THE KATET.

"I cannot get enough of these guys, they soothe the soul" Barack Obama

Formed on the south side of Chicago in 1986 as a family group known as "the Phil Cohran Youth Ensemble", the group consisted of eight horn-playing blood brothers led by their father and teacher Kelan Phil Cohran (Sun Ra's lead trumpeter). After years of honing their technique on stage and street, the brothers combined their efforts in 1999 and began performing a new style of brass music they called "Hypnotic" - an insurrectionary fusion of hip-hop, jazz and funk. Their debut album was a massive independent hit, catapulting them to national and international fame.

They came to prominent UK notoriety following a performance on Later With Jools Holland, and collaborations with The Gorillaz, Mos Def and Talib Kweli have helped to keep their star shining bright in the musical sky. The last few years have seen constant touring and countless festival shows - performance is in their blood, and to see them live is a real privilege for any music fan.

Edinburgh musical linchpin Mike Kearney's many armed and legged soul-blues-funk monster creation takes to the stage in support.
