GHOST WRITER – BEHIND THE WALL - 22ND JULY

Local Band to play headline slot with special guests!
Falkirk indie folk act Ghost Writer are putting on a special headline show this summer and have invited some special guests to bring a huge amount of talent to the stage in Behind the Wall.

The band was formed in 2015 by local musician Iain King who had previously fronted the very successful Falkirk indie rock outfit Mono Six. Iain who provides vocals and lead guitar is joined by Mags Dignan on vocals and keys, Scott McGregor on bass and Jonathan Murray on drums. The 4-piece have been receiving plaudits for their excellent fresh approach to indie-folk music and their self released debut EP “Outskirts Vol.1” is a perfect introduction to their sound. The band have been putting on electric live performances with the towering King commanding the stage. The band have mostly been playing gigs in Edinburgh and Glasgow, notably a recent show at King Tuts, so will be looking forward to playing to a home crowd.
King has also been involved in another project with new local collective Fairweather & The Elements and the band will be one of the special guests at the show. The group is the brain child of well-loved Falkirk musician Ross Fairweather and comprises of the man himself on vocals and guitars, 2 members of The Insomniac Project; Deborah Lang (vocals) and Gary Neill (bass), Elwood drummer Scott Young and of course Ghost Writer's Iain King on guitar and vocals.
The next act are no strangers to playing the big stage, Fife indie pop act Moonlight Zoo’s last live performance took place at The Isle of Wight Festival and are sure to be a huge hit when they come over to Falkirk.

Line up: Ghost Writer Moonlight Zoo Fairweather &
The Elements Plus more TBA

Tickets are available now from www.afterglowmusic.uk,
Behind the Wall and Noise Noise Noise,

New Women's Music Festival Coming To CentralScotland

On July 16th, 2016 Pandora Fest will host Scotland 'sfirst Women's Music Festival at DunCarron Medieva Fort in Carron Valley near Falkirk . In its debut year, the festival aims to redress the balance of female artistsplaying within the festival scene.

'In 2015 - the major festivals displayed a massive

gender imbalance. Of the 87 acts that were announced, 78 were all male, 3 were female and 6 were

mixed groups. That, was an 89.6% all male line up!' * The Guardian Newspaper Music Section

by Alexandra Pollard, Feb 2015

Headlining are the all-female London band Courtesans, also from London comes singer-songwriterSofia B. From afar are California Electronics artist ContainHer , Texas singer-songwriter Erin Bennett , New York rapper Flapjack and Australian melodic lyricist Emaline Delapaix.

The spectrum of different musical styles ranges from the Yorkshire neo-punks Arcane 39 to afro/psyche alt rock Vodun, from classic jazz fusion duo Syntonic to indie pop trio Bugeye.

A handful of Scottish young singer-songwriters are given their first shot at a festival stage including the 2016 Soundwaves Winner, Alannah Moar. From our very own songstress Caroline Gilmour to the rock outfit Bravado and the all female funk band One More, both from Dundee , and more;Scotland is thoroughly represented.

Pandora Fest's website lists all other confirmed artists with more to come. The festival is alsocalling for submissions from female artists across the UK and beyond. Pandora Fest is family and LGBTI friendly, will be running two stages of live music of all genres from 11am to 11pm and plans on becoming an annual event.

Miss Daalmeijer and Mrs Duchat formed Pandora Fest in collaboration with Attack Agency who are based in Central Scotland and whose aim is to deliver world class artist management, event organisation; talent development and recently, a record label primarily for women and female led musical enterprises. The festival is also collaborating with The Clanranald Trust for Scotland who raise funding for Duncarron through their educational activities and their work as combat performers for the film and television industries.

Pandora Fest is Scotland 's first and the UK 's premier women's music festival; supporting women musicians and celebrating female musicianship across all genres. The assumption that it is a woman only event would be wrong! Any criticism of being anti-male is entirely unfounded; the festival stage is open to male musicians and the audience will be a traditional summer blend of everyone who loves good music.

Autumn 2016 Show Announcement

Further details on all these events and ticket links are available at our website http://www.edinburgh-blues.uk/

Some rather eccentric tour guides take to Greenock during the tourist season

Beyond the Green Oak – A surreal, musical walking tour .

Local residents and visitors to Greenock may think they are seeing things between May and August this year. That's because there will be some rather eccentric characters at large in the area. A ukulele playing prawn, a selkie who is obsessed with selfies and a beatboxing Burns are just some of the cast of Beyond the Green Oak - a surreal, musical walking tour of Greenock delivered by Beacon Arts Centre in partnership with Creative Scotland and Inverclyde Place Partnership.

The tours are led by tour guide Hector McMonigal who will introduce the sites & highlights of Greenock town centre. Along the way, audiences will meet the likes of self-styled diva Selkie Stick – half woman, half seal who loves to sing & take selfies (listen to her song Guiding Light here) a Beatboxing Burns will then tell you some stories with some impressive vocal percussion and Folk duo Green Oak get lyrical about the area, whilst R&B act Tape & Style & DJ Jim ‘Electro' Watt will introduce the riverside town through their sweet, soul sounds and banging beats. (Downloadable images on Flickr here ).

The tours are the brainchild of award-winning artist and musician Louise Quinn. She describes the inspiration behind the tours:

“A wee trip doon the watter' to Greenock always gives me a slightly surreal feeling of being on holiday, even though it's only half an hour away on the train! I wanted to recreate this feeling for visitors whilst letting the residents see their home town through fresh eyes. I hope this tour will give the participants a smile, a song & a fondness for all things Greenock. ”

Organisers hope to attract the many cruise ship passengers to join them on the tour, but also stress that the tour is open to all visitors to Greenock and local residents as Rikki Payne from Inverclyde Place Partnership confirms:

““With the numbers of cruise ships in Greenock almost doubling in the next couple of years, it's really important that we're able to offer visitors something that shows Inverclyde as a vibrant and creative place. But this tour isn't just for tourists. The songs in the show are brilliant, irreverent observations about local life and attitudes. I think local people will take them to heart and adopt these crazy characters into their lives.

“Beyond the Green Oak is colourful, fun and different. It is certainly not your usual run of the mill tour – I mean we have a man dressed as a prawn playing the ukulele! However we promise everyone involved will learn something about Greenock – although some facts may not necessarily be true!”

Beyond the Green Oak is part of a wider project – All Hands, a celebration of Inverclyde's rich local heritage and strong cultural traditions. In addition to the walking tours there will be workshops in watercolour painting and free music performances in the Beacon Bistro. Anyone interested in joining should contact Beacon Centre www.beaconartscentre.co.uk or call 01475 723 723

HELLBOUND Train , the brand new EP from Scottish alt.blues troubadour Dave Arcari, is released on Buzz Records on Friday 10 June 2016.

The four song EP – five including the radio edit (no bad words!) of the title track – features three new tracks (Hellbound Train, Good Moonshine & Travellin' Man) from Arcari plus a version of Son House's classic Pearline .

Other than the release of McPherson's Lament as a digital single to mark Burns' Day earlier in the year, this is Arcari's first release in three years – and pre-empts a full-length album Givers & Takers which is scheduled for an Autumn release.

“I've been working on a whole bunch of new songs for a while,” says Arcari. “But despite plans to record and release them long before now, things have been so busy on the road there just hasn't been time – not that I can complain about that!”

Hellbound Train will be launched at a  series of three Scottish shows – The Tunnels, Aberdeen (Thursday 9 June) , Sneaky Pete's, Edinburgh (Friday 10 June) and The Hug & Pint, Glasgow (Saturday 11 June) .

Then in July Arcari will play Fat Sam's, Dundee (Friday 1 July) , Clark's, Dundee (Saturday 2 July) , The Blues Kitchen, Camden, London (Tuesday 12 July) , The Cluny, Newcastle (Wednesday 13 July) and Fibbers, York (Thursday 14 July).

RIght after the York show he heads to Estonia for a short tour including Parnu Blues Festival before another run of UK shows in September and a US tour (October/November) to be announced soon.

LILYGUN ALBUM SALE NOW ON!
Get Lilygun's debut album on sale now!
This album has sold out in shops so this is the only place where Cds are available.

Visit the Shop here: http://www.lilygun.com/ shop
and get your copy while it's on sale now!

Here's what they said about it...

“There have been many debut albums that bring you that "wow" factor and Lilygun is right up there with the best. The songs are atmospheric, played brilliantly but above all sung to perfection by front woman Anna-Christina. Lilygun are getting the attention and recognition from the music industry for all their qualities and hard work. About bloody time too”.
Neil Richardson. Roomthirteen

"Escaping the genre trap with consummate ease, Lilygun's self-titled debut deals in freedom of expression and a feast of guitar-driven emotion dredged from the depths of London's underground live music scene. Impossible to pigeon-hole and yet easy to admire, Lilygun could be the shot in the arm British rock is searching for".
Gun-Ho. Rush On Rock

"What's most striking about the album from Lilygun is how they've combined a real sense of catchiness with their technical approach to things, combining their signature sound with an almost mainstream like quality, something which will stand them out as more than a simple rock band. This ability, and the resulting sound is what makes this such a stand out album, and one which I have a feeling is going to do remarkably well once it's in the public domain from the 10th of September. If you only ever listen to one album we review, then make it this one – believe me when I say it's worth your while!"
Dave Nicholls. Loud-Stuff

“Few bands in recent memory have grabbed my attention like London rockers Lilygun. There is so much depth to this record. It's dark and cerebral, it's moody and pensive, it's operatic and it rocks balls. Musically, there is an evident solid chemistry with gorgeous bass lines by Aaron John and David Ryder Prangley and drummer Belle Star laying down the foundation for massive orchestral highs and magnificently simple lows. Add to this a deliciously balanced mix of guitar sounds, ranging from haunting background growls to full bore wall-o'-sound solos. Then there is the tour-de-force that IS Anna-Christina. With song writing chops that, for me, rival those of the great Tori Amos, she is certain to be a force to be reckoned with. This is not to mention the fact that she is one of the most gorgeous bad-ass rocker women I've ever seen”.
Kevin. Nanobot Rock Reviews

“This is a set of songs written by the band's dynamic and charismatic singer, Anna-Christina, demonstrating such variety that it's difficult to pin the sound down to 1 genre. The arrangements squeeze every last drop out of a fairly traditional line-up and create a huge dynamic range across the album. This is a great first album from an original and inventive band and I haven't heard anything else this year to surpass this in terms of raw power and dynamic range; they've been on the horizon for a while now and this should be the breakthrough. This is a great album”.
Allan McKay. Music Riot

“Anna-Christina's voice is both unique and unexpected. The album only hints at the intensity this band could create live; it's a tease, a promise of better things, an album that will leave you on the hunt for tickets to see them play live. Lilygun know how to lead their listeners, drawing them intimately close before hitting them hard with a punk riff or two. Lilygun's debut album is an insight into just what they can do, varied and exciting, it clearly sets them up as one to watch.”
Keller. EGL Magazine

"This band is going places, no doubt about it and I strongly suggest that radio stations and festival organisers start checking them out now! The band deliver 8 tracks of Rock music that brims with attitude and melody."
Dave. Ravenheart Music
