Tashweesh: free performance at the CCA
Tuesday, 3 August 2010, 20:00
Video and sound artist Basel Abbas and artist and film-maker Ruanne Abou-Rahme work on this collaboration with music composer and MC boikutt, combining their different practices and interests in a joint performance, mixing live visuals electronic, glitch, and abstract hip hop with Arabic rapping . The result is an exploration of the collision between sound and video field recordings, archive material, vocals, breaks and soundscapes. Their audio-visual performances will take place in Glasgow at the CCA as well as in Edinburgh at the Forest Cafe and Edinburgh College of Art's Tent Gallery.

Aaron Cezar, Director of the Delfina Foundation, says, “ Tashweesh is the latest 'voice' to emerge from Palestine, representing a new generation of artists who are not only cutting edge but blurring the edges between artistic disciplines, social action and geographical boundaries.  Beyond Borders is elated to bring this new constellation of audio-visual culture to Scotland and showcase these rising stars”.

14milesfromhome EP Launch
I am writing to you in hope of raising public awareness for my band; 14 Miles From Home. We have recently signed a single deal with Brighton based label, Metropolis Records and we will be launching the Single plus a 4 track E.P on Friday the 2 nd of July. This will be followed by a 7 date UK tour, including venues in London. We will soon be recording with Bruce Rintoul, who has previously worked with bands such as The Ting Tings, Twin Atlantic and We Were Promised Jetpacks. This is a very exciting time for us!

We have been together for over 2 years now and have played hundreds of shows all over Scotland, receiving praise for our musicianship and our energetic stage performance, but more importantly, our passion and enthusiasm. These are the qualities that we believe make a band successful, as music is such an important part of our lives, we hope to take our talent as far as we can. We are passionate and enthusiastic about each and every performance and although we are strongly established on the local music scene, we are keen to make ourselves recognised nationally.

As we already have a strong fan base, we hope to increase this with your help. We hope you can help by providing exposure for the public and other media outlets. We are hoping for radio airtime, CD or live reviews, interviews etc. We are already working on a full length album, music video, press pack, merchandise, and sponsorship. We would appreciate any assistance you can offer as we are serious about taking our music to the next level. For more information, please visit – www.myspace.com/14milesfromhome .

The Wise Monkey - the newest venue in the west end
The Wise Monkey, is the newest Bar/Restaurant/Live music venue in the heart of the west end. Situated where Hubbards used to be (underneath Viper) 508 Great Western Road. Open 11am- Midnight, Mon-Sat, 12.30 - Midnight Sun.

We have been open since March, and have steadily started to find our feet within the hustle and bustle of Glasgow's busy music scene. We feel we offer something different, on so many levels. For instance all our gigs are FREE entry. Its hard enough being in a band. Travel, rehearsals...politics. So the last thing we want to do is add the pressure of selling tickets. we are a 300 capacity venue, so can accommodate the larger bands and their fans. But also have lots of seating, making the whole experience chilled. We offer an ever changing line-up of music. From, local bands, touring bands, covers and tribute bands, covering all genre's from Rock to Jazz, pop to soul. Thus, hopefully, catering for all musical tastes.

We offer a large selection of beer and wines, from World beers, micro breweries and real ales from Scotland. Our house Pinot Grigio starting at £7.95 a bottle.
Great food: Are menu is first class and offers a wide range of food, from: Steaks, burgers and fish, to nibbles such as Nachos, chicken wings and chips. Buy one get one free on all main courses. Mon-Thurs 12-9pm

The Jazz Bar wins Parliamentary award
On Wednesday 19 May, at a glitzy awards celebration in the Terrace bar of the House of Commons , compered by pop/rock music guru Paul Gambaccini, The Jazz Bar was awarded the 'UK JAZZ VENUE OF THE YEAR'  trophy, against stiff London competition.  The award was presented to Jazz Bar creator Bill Kyle by Lord David Steel (who later was asking us "where exactly is this great sounding place, I must pay it a visit ..."). Photo link: www.flickr.com/photos/ppluk/4624064900/
This is third major award picked up in under a year, having been voted 'Scotland's Jazz Venue of the Year' at the Scottish Jazz Awards last June, then taking the 'Scotland's Music Pub of the Year' title at the Scottish Licensed Trade News awards last October.

The 6-year old annual awards scheme is organised by the All-Party Parliamentary Jazz Appreciation Group (APPJAG), a society of around 100 MPs who are keen to further the cause of jazz in the UK. It's chaired by Falkirk/Linlithgow MP Michael Connarty, and there are 9 awards categories: www.sandybrownjazz.co.uk/forumappjag.html
